Synopsis:

Don Salvatore, a parish priest from the outskirts of Naples, suddenly disappears. Cardinal Fonseca sends Don Michele to replace him, but does not reveal his identity to the priest, who believes he is the cardinal’s secretary, Don Ferdinando. Nor does he tell him he is sending him there solely to aid the investigation of Don Salvatore’s disappearance. On arrival Don Michele finds nine traumatised children who Don Salvatore has sheltered. Local crooks are convinced he is a cop and threaten him and the children if he continues his investigations. But these threats only fuel the priest’s courage. Unaware of Cardinal Fonseca’s true identity, he attempts to see him, but fails as the ailing Cardinal doesn’t want his identity discovered. Aided by Father Sciachillo, he discovers Don Salvatore’s brave activities. Meanwhile the Cardinal’s health deteriorates and Don Michele discovers that he is really “Don Ferdinando” and an extraordinary person.
Finally the solution to all the problems the three priests have courageously dealt with arrives.
