Synopsis:

After being away in Africa for twenty years caring for animals, veterinarian Walter Brandi returns to Italy for the funeral of his brother Filippo.
Annamaria, Filippo's widow, could never have guessed that her husband had written to Walter shortly before his death telling him something that she'd never revealed to anyone: Paolo, the couple's first child, is actually Walter's biological son.
Nineteen years before, Walter and Annamaria had spent a drunken night together. It was a mistake that Filippo had forgiven, but just to be sure, he had a DNA test done and it turned out that the child was Walter's.
But Walter, feeling deep remorse for what he did and his relationship with his brother in pieces, decided to go away and start a new life. Till now, he had been working together with his assistant Chiumbo, and Fatima, a woman with whom it seems he has a close relationship.
Walter returns to Rome to find out the truth. A diary he finds on Filippo's computer confirms that his brother lied to Annamaria about the DNA test and that Paolo, now a teenager with a difficult personality, is, in fact, Walter's son. Walter also meets his niece and nephew Sara and Samuele again, as well as his good old friends Carlo and Laura who now work at Filippo's veterinary clinic. He also makes friends with Ferruccio, a stray dog that Filippo rescued.
However, Annamaria is about to sell the clinic to Giacomo, a man who Walter doesn't trust at all.
When Paolo returns home bleeding, Walter realizes that the boy is mixed up in some serious trouble.
Walter feels that he needs to stay and help the family that he hasn't been there for in so long. But how long can he keep his secret for?
